After a deep dive, I would suggest taking some one on one time out with your kid. Go on an adventure kind of thing, remove them and yourself from the normal day-to-day life. Help them get some perspective on things.. even if it's just for the weekend just get away from everything. Take some time and talk things through.. They don't need to be drugged and they don't need specialist care. They probably, maybe , just need some time out with you.. It's a good start anyway.. I think it comes from taking everything in the day-to-day life too Seriously. Just get out of it. Get up a mountain and look down on the world. Anything just get away from the normal hum drum and try and find some perspective together... Ultimately something needs to change. Just got to figure out what..

This is too clinical too cold.. People are not mechanisms to be fixed.. and not everyone can afford professional help.. and they don't need it. They need guidance. This is what the internet was created for. This video does not help. Sorry as well intended as it is..

@bethcasey4013 I love how this is an older video but still very relevant for students and educators. I found Josh to be humorous but do not think students could appreciate this classic. I not quite sure if all of his content was school appropriate but still feel like he made great points and had helpful information for teens.

My kid got bullied in school, he's a good kid that doesn't like trouble, I tried telling him to go to the principle to talk to him, I got a nod that it says "sure" but I know he wouldn't do that, and that people responsible for kids, they do nothing, I told him, to give a clear red line and make a stance, but you're right that would make these kids even angrier, I'll go to talk to the people responsible and I got a feeling it won't be the last time. I just want him to be able to defend him self in the future.

So what if your teen has repeatedly been violating rules, using drugs (despite consequences), and generally has a record of being untrustworthy? I think he knows what we expect but keeps doing the opposite anyway. He already is not allowed to drive, we don't let him hang out with friends or play video games when we catch him (which is often), and his phone is locked down to the bare minimum.

This is horrible advice! You dont tell a kid to remain kind and calm 100 percent of the time when they are bullied. And basically telling them to ignore the bully. Thats what bullies like they want to feel powerful and feel that people are afraid or them which is exactly what they get when they know they can do and say anything to a kid and he wont do a thing about it . Don’t ever tell a kid to just ignore it do you know how invalidating that is?

ysu did not seem to really have any value for me. The website template did not seem functional, and the information in the program is common sense that should be shared in professional organizations, not paid for. Seems like a diploma mill to me. These seem to be mostly paid endorsements, even though they say they are not.

I dislike my 13 year old step son on a very real and adult level. He rages (daily, usually multiple times) at his mother and I for simply saying "no" to him, throws things around, lies, does drugs, steals, and has the strongest sense of entitlement I've ever encountered. He refuses to go to school, or do any chores. His friends are all pothead losers and he's become "one of them" (if you take his weed away he gets physically destructive/violent) He is rude to everyone, and is such a proficient liar to the point I just don't believe anything he says at all. As the step father, I am powerless to do anything, he just disregards everything I say and immediately runs to his mother who then gives in just because she doesn't want to deal with the literal hours of him getting in her face and screaming over a trivial matter. We are at the end of our rope with him, and his mother has told me in no uncertain terms that she hates him. I want to send him somewhere else, and the longer it goes on like this the less I care about where we send him. He has put such a strain on our family, even his 9 year old sister has said that she wishes he would "just go somewhere else and stay there". If he keeps up like he is I don't want to leave my family, but to preserve my own sanity I might have to, because it's almost at the point where I want to call the social worker and tell them to put him in a group home on the other side of the country, either that or have him prescribed meds that will turn him into a zombie just so we can have some semblance of a happy family life. It sucks to say it, but he has embarked head first down the path to being a "no-hoper" and shows no signs of wanting to straighten himself out despite being given all the support and resources he needs. He sees what he is doing to us but doesn't care, as long as he gets what he wants. He has shown traits of narcissism, and only pretends to be nice when he wants something, because if you say "no" to him he flips out, as in 0-1000 in .5 seconds. You can't even remove yourself from it because he follows you everywhere while screaming at you and belittling you. If his mother isn't around and he doesn't like a boundary I have drawn he calls his mother at work incessantly. For example yesterday I told him he wasn't borrowing my 4 wheeler and he called his mother at work 26 times in the run of 20 minutes. She didn't answer him immediately so that's what he does. He is the most unpleasant person I know, and I have zero traction with it. Our household is only happy when he's not in it, and there are times I wish he wouldn't come back. I know its horrible, but unless you've lived with him you can't possibly understand just how awful he is.

By law, you only have to provide food, clothing, and shelter. Let him know that you love him no matter what, and even if. Dr. Paul Jenkins has many U tube videos and a website called “Living on Purpose “. I could suggest many things that have helped me to improve the behaviors of my three Grandchildren, but you should definitely check out his videos. I’m 72 years old and have been raising my youngest son’s children for the past 14 years. My son had many if not all of the behaviors you described with your step son, until the drugs killed him. I applied Dr. Jenkins practices when he was 13 and my grandchild graduated with a 4.0 GPA and made a 1590 on his SAT. Going to college and studying Neuroscience. Second grandchild graduated this year and is working. Third grandchild is a sophomore in high schools. Yes I am the meany, but they know I love them and I’m just trying to protect them. I feel your pain and frustration brother!

Here’s a solution: take their phones away for 6 months. No social life. Friends can only come to your house, and watch their behaviors. In the old days we had a belt! Make them get a job and pay for their own phone if they want one…. Stop enabling… it only gets worse when they buy drugs off the street.
